I have never had a problem with wet or dry traction, it always corners nice which tells me that the rubber compound they use probably is softer than it needs to be because it wears out too quickly. I've tried the American Elite which claims a "harder" compound in the center of the tread and softer compound on the outer edges for better cornering.

but I don't think that center rubber is "harder" than the rubber on this 402, it is just harder than the rubber on the outsides. I didn't get much better tread life on the American Elite than I do with the 402. The 402 is great but could be better as far as tread life. Harley Davidson dunlop 402 tires are the most dependable tires you could run on a bike, they hold the road in any condition except snow, but you"ll have this. I definitely recommend this tire. They say he shape is the thing I had been running a set of Metzlers on a Road King. They got weird, odd wear, cupping like you wouldn't believe. Very nice, predictable handling tire. I have an '04 Road King Custom with 20,000 miles and only use Dunlop. Never an issue with these tires. Just purchased a 91' HD soft tail custom and the D402 that is on it has developed a flat edge from wearing against the belt... Other than that the tire handles well from wet to dry surfaces. great rear tire for HD Road King where we live there are a lot of mountains not much straights. Holds turns great in any kind of weather. it is a good dependable tire at a great price. I would recommend this tire to any of my fellow riders. I read all time people getting10-11-15- k on rear tire .

Im 66 years old ride a lot never get near that I have a new 2015 h solftail- looked today i have 7000 and i will be lucky to get 8000 . 401 and 402 are good tires but i most time get 6000 on back 8000on front on my lowrider. It looks like solftail will run about the same. Only got just under 9k miles from the rear tire but even bald never had a problem and I rode in rain and on dry pavement.
